The closest I ever got to Bob, except when he brushed against my shoulder at the NFT at the press conference for that Hearts Of Fire catastrophe.
I was asked by a contact at Sony to supply notes for this compilation; Dylan had always been badly served by Greatest Hits collections, but this 2CD effort did the business. Hard to condense one of rock’s most influential careers into a few hundred words… But duly done and dispatched. When the finished copy came back I noticed in my list of cover versions that Duke Ellington had been included, I asked why? I was told the notes had gone to Bob and he was really proud that Duke had covered ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’, and made sure it was included. So something I have written about Bob Dylan was read by Bob Dylan…
