Their Fab career had been ably documented in Volume I, but I picked up on the release of The Beatles At The BBC and 3 volumes of Anthology. It was a treat being a fly in the wall and listening to long-ago performances first broadcast when I was at school. Or out-takes and early versions of their immortal songs. It was a real joy and gave me the first sustained crack at writing about the group. It led, I suppose, to that Forth Bridge of rock biography, my (still incomplete) 200,000w biography With The Beatles.
